Sucking Fingers and Pacificers

Yesterday Abby had her two year check up and while we were there I asked him for some suggestions on helping Abby stop using her passy. He suggested an index card that you fill up with either stickers or hole punches. I thought this might work for Gabriel (he sucks his fingers) but I don't see it having any impact on Abby. About that time Abby pulled some cheese sticks out of my purse he then said I could use something like that to occupy her mouth. My immediate thought was that you would be switching one vise for another. This did not sound like a good idea to me. Another suggestion he made way making a little slit in the tip of the passy. I tried this and it does not seem to faze Abby in the least. My big concern is that when I do take the passy away she starts to suck and chew in her fingers. I don't want her to switch over because I am fearful of having an even harder battle at that point. My sister's little girl gave it up on her own at 2 years of age. I am just wondering if I should just wait awhile and see what happens with her. With Gabriel we are trying to "catch" him without his fingers in his mouth and praise the heck out of him for it. If you have any advice please feel free to share it. After all this is the first time I have ever done this. All the education in early childhood does not prepare you for the real thing and your kids are harder than someone elses.

Cutting the tip of Abby's passy seems to work after all. She had it in her mouth for about 30 min and then brought it to me telling me it had a hole.
